Bought a video camera, had a play around and found your movies don’t quite look like the latest James Bond film?  If you want to improve your films to make sure the family don’t sigh and the neighbors run for the door come down and join us.

We are a small bunch of friendly people who enjoy making films on a whole variety of subjects. Over the years we’ve made films covering such diverse areas ranging from holiday films through  weddings and christenings to dramas ,comedies and documentaries.

Our club nights vary from guest visits and lectures by people from other clubs to regular hands on practical sessions, as well as club competitions, where you can show off your new found skills.

Moviemakers bring traffic to a halt

Traffic was brought to a standstill while members of Rochdale Moviemakers filmed scenes from the latest production.

Filming is taking place in Rochdale next week but began last weekend, in Howarth during their 1940s celebrations.

Director, Geoff Alexander said, “This was by far the most difficult shoot we’ve encountered, as our current film, set in the nineteen forties, requires many extras in costume-something normally we couldn’t afford to undertake.  However, taking advantage of the celebrations, we just stopped people in the street and asked them to perform as required. We had to ensure that, visitors in modern dress were not filmed as this would have destroyed the illusion of the 1940s. Some members block off sections of the street preventing not only people from passing, but also several vehicles.  No one objected as  people of Haworth did everything they could to make a job our task as easy as possible”.

During the filming, the crew found themselves surrounded by photographers, both professional and amateur, taking pictures of them, making the film.

“As the story outlines of our last two award winning productions have come from new members, we seem to be carrying on with what we hope will be a successful pattern, as the idea for this film comes from one of our newest members, who visited the club for the first time, just three weeks ago.
